(and one that you should not.)Outdoor yoga? On a farm?? What in the world? Here at Downward Doulas, we believe that people should reconnect with their surroundings and truly experience our environment. Doing yoga outside connects us with yogis from centuries past.
The one thing that you will NOT find at Downward Doulas is competition. We are happy that you have taken the time to work on yourself. Each of us is on our own journey and we want you to come to yoga wherever you are on yours. We are here to support you and build you up on your path. We want to celebrate with you as you reach your personal goals.

Here at Downward Doulas, Missy and I know that doing yoga has changed our bodies and minds for the better. I had to convince Missy (for years) how good yoga feels and all the benefits that come from it. It was not until she finally relented and came to some of my classes that she began to see and feel a difference in her body. When I had to take a break from teaching yoga, she found herself seeking out other yoga options to feed her need for it. It took some prodding but I did eventually persuade her to start her journey as a registered yoga trainer and now we are in the business of helping others find yoga for themselves. We practice traditional yoga with a twist. (Pun intended.) We strive to make every yoga class fun and enjoyable. We will do yoga with a goat, we will do yoga on a boat. We will sip and stretch and acrobalance with a partner. We are always looking for new ways to practice this ancient art. Below are 10 reasons we think you should come and practice yoga with us! 1. Yoga practice outside is traditional
When yoga is practiced traditionally, yogis practice outside. Being outside allows for fresh air and vitamin D. You get the added benefit of being on a beautiful farm surrounded by nature. 2. Yoga will help you feel better Practicing yoga has been known to reduce stress and calm feelings of anxiety. There’s a lot of science to back this up. We have seen this to be true in our own practice. The more yoga we practice, the better we feel, physically and mentally. 3. Yoga will make you look better We know that doing a workout just to look better may be motivation enough for some people. For us, looking better from yoga comes from strengthening our bodies but also feeling better about ourselves as humans. The confidence that comes from practicing yoga shines from you! 4. Yoga will increase your ability to balance Balance has been found to be a key indicator in athletes’ injuries. Those that have better balance are less likely to get hurt during workouts and games. This is also true of elderly people. Those that have good balance are less prone to falls and injuries that result from them. It has also been linked to helping alleviate balance disorders. 5. Yoga outside is great if you are gassy during your practice This is a very practical reason. If you are doing a full yoga practice, digestion will be encouraged. This can lead to all sorts of stomach noises and gassy emissions. Being outside allows for fewer people to experience them. And you could always blame the smell on the farm animals. 6. Yoga will improve your sleep Yoga has been proven to help you fall asleep quicker, stay asleep longer, and go back to sleep more quickly. Not sure about you but we need this now more than ever! 7. Yoga will make you stronger The nature of yoga, whether practicing vinyasa style or yin yoga, is to use your own body weight to grow stronger. This strengthens your core and individual muscle groups. You will begin to feel it after your first class. 8. Yoga can help focus your mind Many of the techniques in yoga focus on your breathing and clarity. This is most evident in final relaxation when you are asked to clear your mind and focus on intention. This does not come easy in today’s society. We have to practice it together in class and on our own to get our mind back under our control. 9. Yoga can improve your health Multiple studies have shown that practice increases heart health, improves flexibility, reduces weight, and improves the overall wellness of the practitioner. If you ask us, we have seen even greater improvements in mental health, as well. 10. Brooke and Missy are the best! We may be a little biased here but we love spending time with each other and our friends. Having set times to be together adds to our friendships with each other and our practicing yoginis. Many of our yoga students also consider us friends and family. ~Brooke
